International News:US President Donald Trump on Friday revealed that the 50% tariff imposed on India has caused a "rift" in relations between the two countries. In an interview, Trump termed it a "big deal" and said the move caused tensions in trade relations with India.

"India was buying oil from Russia. I imposed a 50% tariff; it was not easy. This created a rift with India," he said. Trump also claimed that he has imposed tough sanctions on Russia for not making peace in Ukraine.

Preparations to increase pressure on Russia

The statement on tariffs comes at a time when the US administration is considering new sanctions to put further pressure on Russia. Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last month did not yield any concrete results in the Ukraine peace talks.

According to international media reports, the US has also suggested the European Union impose 100% tariffs on India and China to put pressure on Russian energy buyers. Along with this, the G7 countries plan to take a legal route to use or seize Russia's frozen assets.

Slight improvement in India-US relations

Despite the tariffs, the way has been opened for the resumption of trade talks between the two countries. US candidate for India Sergio Gor said that the two sides are "not far away" in resolving trade and tariff disputes. He said that India's Commerce Minister has been invited for talks.

Trump's possible visit to India

Gore indicated that Trump may also visit India soon, especially on the occasion of the Quad Leaders Summit. Talks on trade and energy are expected to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Energy purchase from Russia becomes a big challenge

India's energy purchase from Russia is still a matter of concern for the US. India has described it as necessary to ensure energy security, but the US did not accept it. Experts believe that there will be decisive talks between the two countries on this issue in the coming weeks.
